Want to Reach 70 Without Chronic Conditions?
Start Eating Healthy Today
Want to know if your eating habits are helping you age healthfully? This quick tool calculates your Alternative Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) score — a scientifically developed measure of diet quality that's been shown to predict long-term health outcomes.
In a groundbreaking 2025 study published in Nature Medicine, researchers analyzed data from over 100,000 participants and found that the AHEI was the strongest predictor of “healthy aging” — defined as reaching age 70 without any major chronic diseases, cognitive decline, or physical limitations.
The AHEI scores your intake across 11 key dietary categories, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, sugar, sodium, and more. A higher score (maximum 110) means closer alignment with evidence-based dietary patterns that support lifelong health.

🍷 A Note on Alcohol and Evolving Science
When the AHEI was originally developed, moderate alcohol consumption — such as one drink per day for women or two for men — was associated with potential health benefits and received a higher score in the index.
However, recent scientific consensus has shifted. Newer research highlights that any level of alcohol consumption may increase health risks, especially for cancer and cardiovascular disease. Leading health organizations today generally do not recommend starting to drink for health reasons.
